Liverpool man scammed out of $82,000 by man pretending to be woman online, troopers said

Liverpool, N.Y. — A Liverpool man was scammed out of $82,000 over a month and a half by a man he thought was a woman online, troopers said.
The 38-year-old victim went to the State Police after realizing he was scammed, said Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for the State Police.
At first, the victim was contacted by a woman online who gained his trust, Jiron said. The woman suggested he invest with a company and he deposited $2,000 online, she said.
