Description
This NCX-5 transceiver is the heart of this ham radio collection. It was used both in my house and in my car, from 1965 to about 1974, and never after that. Hence, due to its age, its interior consists of all vacuum tubes. It was also one of the first ham radio equipment to digitally measure the frequency it received and transmitted on. Included is a set of correspondence I had with National Radio regarding the operation of this transceiver. The NCX-5 spec sheet is also included.
History of this Vintage 1965 Ham Radio Collection
This collection of ham radio equipment was bought in the mid to late 1960s. It was only used a few times in the early 1970s, and never since then due to other interests of mine. I kept it in case I “might” again use it. But I never did. The reason I’m selling it now is that we’re aging, and hence downsizing in preparation for a move to a small home or apartment, and hence getting rid of stuff that is no longer essential.
This equipment was used both in my house and in my car. Hence, you will see both fixed location hardware and mobile hardware in the collection.
The centerpiece of this collection is the National NCX-5 transceiver having 200 watts PEP. It was state of the art in 1965 and cost about 0 then, which was a lot of money at the time.
Note specifically that none of this equipment has been powered on since about 1974, so I have no idea if it works or not. All I can say is that it worked fine the last time I used it.
The following is a list of all items in this collection. Also check out the accompanying photos of this equipment. Each item is being sold separately on eBay:
