Mexican Angel Mask, Guerrero

Description

Traditional angel mask hand carved and painted for celebrations and dancing,
rare, stunningly colored.  Probably vegetable dyes.
One small 3/8" chip off left side (see last photo), otherwise in perfect condition.
A stunning artifact, larger than most, and intense, in-your-face colors.
Four winged angels surround an imposing face representing.....sometimes
a conquistador, sometimes a saint.
Based upon Spanish church art with cherubim. The mountain people of Guerrero love
their angels!
A generous 16.5" long, 12" wide and carved from a four inch thick piece of
wood.
