which is extremely fine, has the feel of silky, clean powder.
It is an excellent media to provide
smooth satiny, contamination-free finishes.
The hard round glass bead particles close up
surface roughness and porosity by peening.
This helps prevent corrosion, resists rust, staining, and fingerprints,
and provides a gently-bright, tight, new surface.
Peening of most any surface (other than light sheet metal)
can help its appearance and longevity,
whether it is to be painted, plated, powder-coated, or left plain.
Peening also helps to combat stress-risers that can produce cracks,
and increase fatigue resistance to critical parts,
retarding fatigue and fatigue corrosion.
Ultra "powder" fine
GLASS BEAD
, such as this size #13,
will peen and polish to a ultra fine satin finish,
leaving a nearly undetectable profile.
It gives 1,000's more hits per second than a larger bead size, such as a #7,
thus giving a super fine satin finish.
Being chemically inert and non-toxic,
GLASS BEAD
will not leave any undesirable or ferrous residue on blasted surfaces.
Uncontaminated spent media is environmentally harmless.
We recommend using
GLASS ABRASIVE
(as fine as practical)
to pre-blast most metal parts,
by cleaning thoroughly to a white metal condition,
and then blasting with
GLASS BEAD
for the best results.
Finer, more intricate parts or areas of parts that have very sharp inside corners,
threads, holes, etc., should be peened
with a size bead that will adequately match the finest radii (rounded corners).
This is especially important if peening to spec.
NOTE: Be aware that many media sellers
offer a GLASS
ABRASIVE
product and call it
GLASS
BEAD
at higher glass bead prices.
Quality

BEAD
is round, should be consistent in size, low in fines,
and is best considered for peening and final finishing to produce bright, tight surfaces.
GLASS
ABRASIVE
is angular and cuts fast.
Some Uses of #13 GLASS BEAD:
Particularly useful for peening of finer materials and in tighter blasting surfaces.
Leaves a very fine satin finish / slightly bright.
If using Glass Bead to clean, finer bead sizes, such as this GB-13, are useful when used at low pressures.
Generally used for very fine Glass Bead applications.
Fine decorative reflective spheres for hobby use.

By itself it peens and polishes very well and will also clean looser adhering dirt, etc.,
but with a sharp media blended with it,

you can also get a white-metal finish
AND
peen (not to spec) at the same time.

will not clean as fast
or leave as good a finish as the two medias used separately,
but will do far better than either media used to the exclusion of the other,
to attain the benefits listed above.
